CMS Men's Basketball Earns 10th Straight Win, Knocks Off La Verne 70-55

LA VERNE, Calif. - Josh Angle scored 22 points on 9-13 shooting as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team won its 10th game in a row with a 72-55 road victory over La Verne on Wednesday evening.

CMS now stands at 12-4 on the year, and 6-1 in SCIAC, remaining in a three-way tie for first place with Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer, who both won on Wednesday night as well. La Verne slips to 4-11 overall and 1-6 in the SCIAC with the loss.

Angle had 16 of his points, on 7-8 shooting, in the second half as CMS pulled away after leading 33-26 at the break.

Will Householter was the one who got the Stags jump-started after intermission, hitting a layup and a jumper and forcing a quick La Verne timeout after pushing the lead to 37-26. With the score 47-36 and 12:30 to go, Angle made two lay-ups around a three-pointer for a personal 7-0 run to get the lead to 54-36. Householter then made it an 11-0 run with two foul shots and a lay-up to get the lead to 20, and CMS wasn't threatened the rest of the way.

Householter finished with 14 points, and Rhett Carter added 12 for the Stags, who haven't been defeated since a road loss at Chapman in their conference opener on Dec. 2.

Angle moved up into ninth place on the CMS all-time scoring list with 1373 points, and now stands just four shy of eighth (1377 by Bill Harmsen '68) and 16 shy of seventh (1389 by Mike Dawe '89).

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Pomona-Pitzer at 2 p.m. in a battle for first place in the SCIAC.
