Rhett Carter Earns SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior center Rhett Carter captured the SCIAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sunday, Dec. 10, the conference office announced today.

Carter had a big effort when CMS needed it in a 60-55 win over Cal Lutheran, finishing with 22 points and 16 rebounds. The Stags lost leading scorer Josh Angle late in the first half for the remainder of the game, and Carter came through with a double-double in the second half alone, tallying 16 points and 11 rebounds after halftime. Carter had seven of his rebounds on the offensive end in the second half, keeping important possessions alive as CMS was able to hold off the Kingsmen for a key league victory.

On Saturday, Carter added 20 more points on 9-13 shooting to tie for team high honors with Angle, who returned to the line-up and helped the Stags cruise to a 104-60 win over California Miramar. It marks the second time in his career that he has earned the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week honor, and his fourth SCIAC weekly honor overall, including two Defensive Player of the Week honors last year. He was also a first-team All-SCIAC selection in the postseason last year.

CMS will be back in action on Sunday when it takes on Buena Vista for a 2 p.m. contest before a 10-day break for the holidays.
