Josh Angle Earns D3CA Region X Men's Sport Student-Athlete of the Year Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Josh Angle of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team earned the D3 Commissioner's Association (D3CA) Region X Men's Sports Student-Athlete of the Year, the organization announced today.

The D3CA Awards recognize graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership. Nominees are also required to submit a personal statement about the role that being a student-athlete and serving in the community has played in their collegiate experience.

Voting was conducted by the commissioners within each of the 10 regions, with the top honorees recognized as finalists for the Awards Committee. As a regional winner, Angle is one of 10 student-athletes to advance to the national ballot for consideration for 2022-23 D3CA Men's Sport Student-Athlete of the Year recognition.

Angle was a D3hoops.com third-team All-America selection for the Stags, after averaging 21.5 points per game to rank in the top 20 in the nation. He was also in the top 10 (eighth) in three-point percentage at 45.0 and scored in double figures in every game, with a low of 14. He helped CMS into the national rankings on opening week with 37 points in a win over No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor and led the Stags to a 21-5 final record.

Academically, Angle graduated with a 3.93 GPA from Claremont McKenna, with both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from the Robert Day School. He was voted the Division III Men's Basketball Academic All-American of the Year from the College Sports Communicators and was one of 10 finalists for the Josten's Award, given to the top men's basketball student-athlete in Division III.

Around campus, Angle has provided in-class notes for several economics and finance courses for the disabled through CMC's accessibility services. He serves as a resident assistant in the CMC apartments overseeing 150 students, and serves as a success coach to his schoolmates through the Dean of Students' office, providing peer-to-peer coaching, which consists of six 30-minute sessions per week to present training in time management, organization, and networking.

The two national winners for the D3CA Men's Sport Student-Athlete of the Year and the Women's Sport Student-Athlete of the Year will be announced later this month.
