Josh Angle One of 10 Finalists for Jostens Trophy

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Josh Angle of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team is one of the 10 men's finalists for the Jostens Trophy, which recognizes the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball players of the year.

The Jostens Trophy focuses on three major criteria: basketball ability, academic prowess, and service to one's surrounding communities. The Jostens Trophy models the Rotary International motto of "Service Above Self" by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of a well-rounded Division III student-athlete. The 2023 season marks the 25th time the Jostens Trophy honors will be awarded.

Angle was named first-team All-SCIAC, first-team NABC All-District, and first-team D3hoops.com All-District after his senior season with the Stags. He ranked 19th in Division III in scoring 21.5 ppg) and eighth in three-point percetange (45.0) while leading CMS to a 21-5 record and a national ranking in the D3hoops.com top-25 all season.

Angle began the season with 37 points in a win over No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor, and had two other games of 30 points, giving him seven in the last two seasons. He went over 1000 points for his career (finishing with 1100) after having only 91 after two years, due to losing his sophomore season to the pandemic.

This week, Angle was also named the NCAA Men's Basketball Division III Academic All-America Team Member of the Year by College Sports Communicators (CSC). He carries a 3.94 GPA as a Robert Day Scholar in the economics department at Claremont McKenna, an accelerated program which will allow him to graduate with a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in finance in four years.

In the community, Angle provides in-class notes for several economics and finance courses for the disabled through CMC's accessibility services. He serves as a success coach to his schoolmates through the Dean of Students' office, providing peer-to-peer coaching, which consists of six 30-minute sessions per week to present training in time management, organization, and networking. He also serves as a resident assistant in the CMC apartments overseeing 150 students.
