Brian Kenyon Earns SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior guard Brian Kenyon earned the SCIAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sunday, Nov. 27, the league office announced today,

Kenyon spearheaded an impressive team defensive effort, as CMS held both opponents to less than 50 points on less than 30 percent shooting as the Stags went 2-0 at the David Wells Classic with an 82-48 win over Puget Sound and a 63-49 win over UC Santa Cruz. Kenyon helped hold his two primary defensive assignments to a combined 3-17 shooting for six points, including leading scorer Tyler Kessinger of UC Santa Cruz (16 ppg coming in), who had just two points on 1-8 shooting with no assists as CMS prevailed in a tight defensive battle.

Kenyon's weekend merely continued his impressive season as a defensive stopper. In a season-opening win over No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor, Kenyon held 2021-22 first-team All-American Josiah Johnson to 3-10 shooting, including 0-4 in the first half as CMS built a 20-point lead at intermission and won 81-70. He also held Brenden Patrick of Lewis & Clark (28.7 ppg in three other games this season) to 4 points on 2-6 shooting in a 95-63 CMS win.

CMS, which is now 5-1 on the year, will be back in action on Wednesday night when it opens SCIAC play with a home game against Chapman at 7 p.m. at Roberts Pavilion.
