Josh Angle Earns Academic All-America Honors for CMS Men's Basketball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior guard Josh Angle of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team earned third-team Division III Men's Basketball Academic All-America honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced today.

In addition, Angle also received second-team All-District honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Tuesday as well, adding it to a first-team All-SCIAC honor

Angle becomes the fourth Academic All-America selection in CMS men's basketball history, and the first to accomplish it as a junior. Bob Donlan earned first-team honors in 2002, Tyler Gaffaney was a second-team selection in 2015 and Miles President captured third-team distinction in 2020, the last season that the Stags competed.

In his first full season as a starter, Angle averaged 18.8 points and 5.7 rebounds. He had four games of 30 points or more, including an opening day win at Puget Sound and a career-high 36 in a win over Redlands. He shot 48.5 percent from the floor, 39.1 percent from three (63-131) and 85.0 percent from the foul line, in addition to averaging 2.3 assists per game. Angle's efforts helped CMS to a 17-8 final record, and a spot in the SCIAC semifinals after he scored 28 points in a 73-69 quarterfinal win over Redlands.

A three-time SCIAC All-Academic selection, Angle carries over a 3.9 grade point average as an economics major at Claremont McKenna. He is one of only three non-seniors to earn one of the 15 spots on the three Academic All-America teams, with the first team comprised entirely of seniors and graduate students.

Angle is the 18th CMS student-athlete to earn the award in the department's history, with the first coming in 1984 (Paul Schulz of the baseball team).
