Jeremy Horn, Miles President Sweep SCIAC Weekly Honors for CMS Men's Basketball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - After a 3-0 week which saw the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team earn wins over Gustavus Adolphus, Lake Forest and Whittier, seniors Jeremy Horn and Miles President were named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced today.

Horn earned the Offensive Player of the Week honor after averaging 20 points over the three contests, including a career-high 28 points against Gustavus Adolphus on Dec. 29. He shot 13-21 from the floor against the Gusties, passing his previous personal high of 24 points and leading CMS to a 77-67 win. He then capped off his week with 20 points on 10-13 shooting in a big SCIAC home win over Whittier (76-67) on Saturday, knocking the Poets (2-0) from the top spot in the league standings.

President, meanwhile, was named the Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Whittier win. He drew the man-to-man defensive assignment against high-scoring Whittier forward Kenyatta Louder, who came in averaging over 16 points per game, and helped hold him to just five points on 2-10 shooting. He also helped to hold his primary assignment against Gustavus Adolphus (guard Isaac Douglas) to five points on 2-7 shooting, before missing the Lake Forest game with an illness.

President becomes the second straight CMS player to win the Defensive Player of the Week honor, after Kele Mkpado earned it last week for his efforts in a 67-66 win over Chicago. The Offensive Player of the Week honor for Horn, meanwhile, is the second of his career after he also earned it after opening weekend last year at the Chicago Midway Classic.

CMS has now won six games in a row and stands at 9-2 overall and 1-1 in the SCIAC, as it welcomes in Chapman this evening for a 7 p.m. contest. The Panthers are also 9-2 overall and 1-1 in the SCIAC, after seeing their eight-game win streak snapped against Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.
