Bruins Light it Up from Downtown, Top Stags in Wells Classic

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The George Fox Bruins went 13-24 from beyond the three-point arc (54.2%) on Friday night to top the No. 15 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags by a 91-73 final score. The three's were flying early for the Bruins. George Fox connected on 10 of their 15 attempts in the first-half to build a 52-36 lead at the break.

Kendrick Morris (CMC) led the Stags with 17 points in 22 minutes on the floor. The senior was second on the team with eight rebounds on the day. Jack Ely (CMC) grabbed a team-high nine boards while also dishing out a team-high five rebounds.

Miles President (HMC) scored 13 points and Scot Lynds (CMC) added 12 to join Morris as double-digit scorers for the Stags. George Fox's Thomas Rico and Mason Green-Richards led the offensive effort for the Bruins scoring 29 and 24 points respectively. Rico went 7-10 from downtown, scoring more than half of the Bruins triples in the game.

As mentioned it was a big first-half for George Fox. The majority of the damage was done on a 23-6 run over a six and a half minute stretch in the middle of the half. Following a free throw from President, the Stags held a 16-15 lead with 13:28 remaining in the half.

A rare, four-point play from Green-Richards started the lengthy run for the Bruins. Seven minutes later, George Fox led 38-22. CMS continued to grind away at the lead and closed the gap to as few as 12 at 61-49 after a layup from Ely midway through the second-half.

The Stags were unable to get any closer down the stretch, eventually falling by a 91-73 final.

With the defeat, the Stags move to 0-3 on the young season and will square off with the high-pressure, Puget Sound Loggers on Saturday evening in Roberts Pavilion. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
