Bio

Teran Mawhinney enters his second season as an assistant coach with the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football program in 2020, where he works with the inside and outside linebackers.

Mawhinney joined the Stags after two seasons at Reedley College, where he served as the program's defensive coordinator and safeties coach.  His efforts helped Reedley to an undefeated season and earn the 2018 Gold Coast Championship in his second season with the squad. Under Mawhinney’s guidance the Reedley defense not only lead the conference in both rushing and passing defenses, but it also finished as one of the premier defenses in the state.

Mawhinney had plenty of championship experience prior to Reedley. Serving as a two-year graduate assistant and strength and conditioning coordinator at Mary Hardin-Baylor, he was on the UMHB staff that captured the programs first Division III National Championship in 2016.  Additionally during his two years with UMHB, the program added a pair of conference titles to its streak of championships. His duties with Mary Hardin-Baylor included working with the safeties, special teams, and programming all strength and conditioning efforts.

No stranger to the SCIAC, Mawhinney was a two-time all SCIAC football player at Occidental from 2012-14. In addition to playing football he was a first team all-conference lacrosse player. Mawhinney graduated from Occidental with a degree in kinesiology with a pre-med emphasis. He served as a team captain for the Tigers, and led weekly Fellowship of Christian Athletes meetings for the team.

After graduating from Occidental, Mawhinney earned a master's degree in exercise physiology at Mary Hardin-Baylor. Graduating first in his class, he was honored with the program's “Outstanding Student Award”.

Originally from Fort Collins, Colorado, Mawhinney currently resides in Corona Del Mar, California.
