Rich Brutto Captures SCIAC Special Teams Player of the Week Award
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Rich Brutto of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team earned the SCIAC Special Teams Player of the Week Award for games through Saturday, Sept. 16, the conference office announced today.
Brutto broke a 7-7 tie with a career-best 47-yard field goal with just one second left in regulation to give the Stags a 16-7 win over George Fox on Saturday (CMS also added a touchdown when Calvin Miller intercepted a lateral on the ensuing kickoff to close out the scoring). The field goal broke his old personal-best of 41 yards, which he set in 2021.
The win enabled CMS to win both of its non-conference games against tough competition. The Stags defeated Chicago, which went 7-3 last year, on the road on Sept. 2, and then won its home opener over a George Fox team that was 8-2 in 2022.
CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Cal Lutheran at 1 p.m. in its SCIAC opener at Zinda Field.
