Alessandro Maiuolo Wins SCIAC Specialist of the Week Honors for Fourth Time

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior kicker Alessandro Maiuolo of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team earned the SCIAC Specialist of the Week honor for the fourth time this season, it was announced today by the conference office.

Maiuolo was 3-3 on field goals and 3-3 on extra points in a 43-0 win over Whittier, as he remained perfect on the season on all of his kicks since opening day. He is now 8-8 on field goals and 17-17 on extra points over the last six weeks, with this week's field goals coming from 35, 38 and 50 yards.

The 50-yarder was his third of his career from at least 50 yards, and the second in his last two contests, as he also had a 54-yarder in a win over Cal Lutheran two weeks ago when he earned his third Specialist of the Week honor (the Stags had a bye week in between). He also had a 52-yarder at home against Redlands in 2019, and earned his first SCIAC Specialist of the Week honor this year after nailing both field goals in a comeback road win over Redlands on Sept. 17.

CMS and Redlands will meet again on Saturday at Zinda Field, but for higher stakes this time, as the Stags are in a must-win situation in order to keep its hopes alive of an NCAA bid. CMS could still finish as co-champions even with a loss, but it would lose a potential tiebreaker with Redlands if it ends up in a 5-1 deadlock with the Bulldogs, due to dropping the game head-to-head. A win, meanwhile, would clinch at least a share of the SCIAC title, and set up a meeting at Pomona-Pitzer on Nov. 12 in a winner-take-all battle for the NCAA bid.
