Jacob Lyle Earns First-Team All-Region Honors from D3football.com, Justin Edwards Named to Third Team

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior left tackle Jacob Lyle earned first-team all-region honors from D3football.com, while first-year running back Justin Edwards was chosen to the third team, the website announced this morning.

Lyle earned first-team honors after finishing a stellar career as the CMS left tackle, where he blocked for two of the top single-season rushers in program history (Garrett Cheadle in 2018 and Justin Edwards this year). He has been part of an offensive line that has helped CMS rank in the top 10 in the nation in time of possession for three straight seasons, including first in 2019, and helped the Stags to their first-ever NCAA Division III Championship bid in 2018.

In addition to helping CMS put up big offensive numbers on the ground, Lyle was part of an offensive line that allowed only eight sacks all year. He was a first-team All-SCIAC selection this year, after earning second-team honors in 2019, and also earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, after carrying over a 3.8 GPA at Claremont McKenna.

Edwards concluded his rookie season with 1146 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns, setting a new CMS record for rushing touchdowns in a season, breaking the old mark of 15 which had stood for 35 years since Chris Dabrow set it in 1986. Edwards was twice named to the D3football.com Division III Team of the Week, both after 200-yard rushing games against Chapman, and added a third 200-yard performance in a win at Cal Lutheran.

Edwards was the only Division III freshman in the country to rush for over 1000 yards this season, while his 1146 yards places him eighth in CMS history. His season total is even more impressive, given that he did not emerge as the CMS featured back until the season's fourth week, when he ran for over 200 yards against Chapman.

By earning first-team all-region honors, Lyle is now eligible for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced on Dec. 17 prior to the Stagg Bowl (DIII national championship game).
