Jacob Lyle, Dylan Porter Earn Academic All-District Honors for CMS Football

CLAREMONT, Calif. - On the same day they received honors for their athletic successes by earning spots on the All-SCIAC first team, senior offensive lineman Jacob Lyle and senior linebacker Dylan Porter also captured accolades for their success on and off the field by being chosen to the Academic All-District team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today.

Lyle has started every game for CMS at left tackle since his first game as a freshman in 2018, helping CMS record one of the best rushing attacks in the nation over his career. He paved the way for two 1000-yard rushers in that time, including Garrett Cheadle in 2018, who finished with 1305 yards and might have broken the single-season rushing record if an injury didn't cost him most of the last two games, and Justin Edwards this season, who ran for 1146 yards in his debut season.

Lyle was a second-team All-SCIAC selection in 2019, when he and the offensive line helped CMS lead the nation in time of possession, and earned first-team honors this year, when CMS ranked fifth in the country in that category. A dual major in economics and government, Lyle has been on the SCIAC All-Academic team every year in his career.

Porter, meanwhile, earned All-SCIAC distinction for the first time in his career, leading CMS in tackles from his middle linebacker spot. He also was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week for tallying a season-high 14 tackles to help CMS to a 27-0 shutout win at Cal Lutheran, its first shutout since defeating Occidental in 2017.

A consistent contributor throughout his career, Porter has played in 30 career games and totaled 161 tackles (67 this year) and 6.5 sacks (3.5 this season). An economics major at Claremont McKenna, he has been selected to the SCIAC All-Academic team each season.

By earning spots on the Academic All-District team, Lyle and Porter will now be eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced in December.
