Stags Seniors Finish Undefeated In Peace Pipe Rivalry

CMS finished the season in dramatic fashion with a 31-30 overtime victory at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.  Led by a clutch defense and a determined offense, the Stags won their fourth straight Peace Pipe.  CMS finished 7-2 overall, its best record since 2002.

The game was, as always, full of emotion as both teams surged back and forth.  CMS took the lead four times and Pomona-Pitzer managed to tie it three times including with 7:29 left in regulation to eventually force overtime.

CMS started on offense in the overtime and scored in two plays.  Trevor Beltz (JR, Portland, OR) rushed for 14 yards and then Peter Kimmey (SO, Seattle, WA) ran it in from 11 yards out for his fourth touchdown of the game.  Chet Corcos (SO, Fair Oaks) added the extra point which proved crucial.  The Sagehens had missed one of their two extra points in regulation so, after they managed to score on their possession, they chose to go for the win with a two-point conversion.  The Sagehen quarterback tried to rush it in, but was stuffed by the Stags defense and CMS had the victory.

The Stags finished 4-2 in SCIAC play which was good for third place, the team's highest finish since 2003.  The team set the school record for points scored in a season with 268 breaking the old mark set in 2002.  They also tied the record for most touchdowns with 36.
