Julian Sanders Earns Third-Team Academic All-America Honors
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Julian Sanders of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team earned third-team Academic All-America honors from College Sports Communicators, the organization announced today.
The Academic All-America program, which began in 1952, honors student-athletes who excel both academically and athletically. Sanders had a big year athletically this season, earning third-team All-America honors from D3baseball.com and capturing the SCIAC Athlete of the Year Award.
Sanders also broke the CMS record for home runs in a season, while batting .398 with 59 RBI, both team highs as well. He was named the SCIAC Hitter of the Week three times, and was the runner-up for the National Hitter of the Week Award from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, following an 8-for-12 series in a sweep of Pomona-Pitzer.
Academically, Sanders carried almost a 3.8 GPA at Claremont McKenna through the fall semester as a dual major in mathematics and computer science, and has been a member of the SCIAC All-Academic Team.
In addition to Sanders' honor, the Stags also had William DeForest, Jarrett Korson and Jack Potter honored on the Academic All-District team.
