Sanders, Shaw, Roche Earn Spots on All-Region Teams for CMS Baseball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Julian Sanders earned first-team All-Region X honors from both the American Baseball Coaches Association and D3baseball.com in a vote of the region's coaches, it was announced this week.

Tyler Shaw was also named second-team all-region by D3baseball.com and third-team all-region by the ABCA, while Paul Roche captured third-team ABCA distinction.

Sanders adds his pair of awards to the SCIAC Athlete of the Year he earned after a record-breaking season for the Stags. He hit 14 home runs on the year, breaking the previous CMS mark of 13, which had held for 26 years since Tyler Laughery set it in 1997. He also finished the season with a .398 batting average, 18 doubles, 59 RBI, a .795 slugging percentage, and a .452 on-base percentage.

Shaw had a standout season as the CMS leadoff hitter, batting .383 on the season with a team-high .462 on-base percentage. He scored 36 runs and also had an impressive 32 runs batted in from his leadoff spot. His season included a 6-for-6 performance against Lewis & Clark, and an 8-for-12 doubleheader in a sweep of Caltech, when the Stags came from behind after trailing in the ninth inning in both.

Roche ended the year with a .360 batting average, and was second behind Sanders on the Stags in every power category, tallying 12 doubles, six homers and a .559 slugging percentage. He also had 38 RBI, including five-RBI games against both Pomona-Pitzer and Gustavus Adolphus.

Sanders, Shaw and Roche helped CMS to a 28-win season (28-11), its highest win total since the 1988 team finished 28-12, as well as the program's first-ever SCIAC Postseason Tournament berth since the tournament format began in 2013.
