CMS Baseball Rolls Past Gustavus Adolphus for Seventh Straight Win
TUCSON, Ariz. - William DeForest was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple and three RBI, and Paul Roche was 3-for-4 with a homer and five RBI as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team won its seventh game in a row with a dominant 16-4 win over Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday.
With the win, CMS moves to 15-4 on the year, including a perfect 4-0 at the Tucson Invitational this weekend, after also defeating Allegheny on Friday and taking two from Macalaster on Saturday. Gustavus Adolphus slips to 1-5 on the season with the loss.
CMS batted around the order twice, scoring six times in the first, all with two outs, and seven times in the fourth. In the fourth inning, Roche had a two-run shot to drive home the first two runs, and then capped off the inning with an RBI single.
Derek Seneker was 2-for-4 with three RBI, Bryce Didrickson was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Tyler Shaw was 2-for-5 with two RBI for the Stags. Kieran Sidebotham and Nick Wilson were also both 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
The CMS bullpen threw six shutout innings, as Hamilton Finefrock got the win to improve to 4-0 on the year. Aaron Herst threw three strong innings, striking out five and allowing just two hits, while Jake Tracey finished things off with two innings of work, striking out three and allowing just one hit.
CMS will try to keep its strong start going with a big three-game series against Cal Lutheran, beginning with a single game on Friday in Thousand Oaks, and then a doubleheader at Azusa Pacific on Saturday.
