Jarrett Korson Earns Second SCIAC Pitcher of the Week Honor for Stags

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Jarrett Korson of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team earned the SCIAC Pitcher of the Week award for games through Sunday, Feb. 26, the conference office announced today.

Korson threw a complete-game four-hit shutout as CMS opened up SCIAC play with a big 5-0 road win over Chapman. Korson struck out eight on the day, and after leaving the bases loaded in the first, he didn't allow a runner past second the rest of the way, retiring 13 straight batters at one point. The game was tight the whole way, as CMS took a 2-0 lead into the ninth before adding three insurance runs, and Korson finished it off with a 1-2-3 bottom half to finish off the complete game with 123 pitches (80 for strikes).

It marks the second time this season that Korson has earned the Pitcher of the Week honor, after also taking it following a season-opening win over George Fox. Julian Sanders also captured the SCIAC Hitter of the Week Award last week after a 9-14 performance in a three-game Texas trip.

CMS will be back in action today when they make up the third game of the Chapman series at Caltech, before facing Pomona-Pitzer in a three-game series this weekend, beginning with a single game at Biola on Friday, followed by a doubleheader at Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.
