Julian Sanders Wins SCIAC Hitter of the Week Honor for CMS Baseball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Julian Sanders earned the SCIAC Baseball Hitter of the Week Award for games through Sunday, April 10, the league office announced today.

Sanders had a key role in helping CMS to a three-game sweep of Occidental over the weekend, which moved the Stags within two games of one of the top four spots in the conference standings (which would earn a SCIAC playoff berth). Over the three-game series, Sanders batted .500 (5-10) with a .667 on-base percentage, as he also walked once and was hit by a pitch four times.

Sanders finished the series with four runs scored and five RBI, including tying RBI singles with two outs in the second and third games to help CMS to comeback wins. His two-out run scoring single tied the score 4-4 in the fifth inning of the Saturday doubleheader opener, after the Tigers went ahead 4-1 in the top of the frame. He then added a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth in the nightcap, after Occidental went ahead 5-4 in the top half.

CMS will be back in action this weekend with a three-game series against Caltech, including a home game on Friday and a doubleheader at Caltech on Saturday, when it will have a chance to pick up three more wins as it hunts for a spot in the postseason.
