CMS Baseball Falls 7-2 to Puget Sound
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd Scrips baseball team fell behind midway through the ball game and couldn't rally back, falling to Puget Sound 7-2 on Sunday at Arce Field.
With the loss, the Stags now stand at 12-10 on the year while Puget Sound improves to 13-12 with the win.
Evan Kelly led the Stags by going 2-for-2 with one run scored while Tyler Shaw, Julian Sanders, Cade Kritsch, Jack Potter and David Mathias each added one hit apiece.
Sanders and Kritsch singled to right field in back-to-back at bats in the bottom of the second, before Sanders scored on the back end of a double steal, while Kritsch was caught in a rundown. CMS held an early 1-0 lead over Puget Sound but the Loggers responded by tallying one run in the fourth, and then three runs in the fifth on a three-run homer from Jacob Ota, and one in the sixth to jump out to a 5-1 lead.
Kelly doubled to left field in the bottom of the sixth, followed by Shaw singling to third base. Kelly was able to score on a double play to cut the CMS deficit to 5-2, but it wasnt enough as the Stags were unable to complete a late game comeback, with the Loggers adding two more runs in the top of the eighth to close out the scoring.
CMS will be back in action next week for a big three-game series with Redlands, facing the Bulldogs at home on Friday at 3 p.m. and then at Redlands for a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.
