Evan Opperman earns All-SCIAC honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced its 2017 All-conference awards for baseball on Thursday morning, as voted upon by the league's nine head coaches. Senior Evan Opperman (CMC) of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps baseball team was named All-SCIAC Second Team in 2017 after a breakout season.

After not hitting a single homerun in his first three years at CMS, Opperman caught fire with the bat and led the team with seven dingers. More than just a slugger, Opperman excelled in other offensive categories for CMS and led the team with a .336 batting average, 31 runs, and eight stolen bases. He also slugged .569 this season.

As the starting catcher for the Stags, Opperman threw out 15 base stealers and boasted a .984 fielding percentage.

The senior was also awarded the SCIAC All-Sportsmanship award.
