CMS Falls To Cal Lutheran In Close Series

The Stags dropped three one run games after playing some of their best baseball of late. In the first game of the weekend, at home, Stags' Alex Sunderland pitched seven and two thirds gutsy innings allowing six runs to a potent Cal Lutheran offense. After trailing 4-0 in the second inning, CMS came back to take a 5-4 lead in the seventh behind two-hit days from outfielders William Knowles, Jason Rehhaut (pictured), and Matt Rothlisberger. But, the Kingsmen responded with two in the eighth to take game one by a score of 6-5.

In first game of the doubleheader, David Ulrich held Cal Lu to five runs in six innings of work. The Stags outhit the Kingsmen by a tally of eight to six, but couldn't overcome an early deficit. Rehhaut scored two runs and Alex Varga drove in two runs, but CMS couldn't capitalize with runners in scoring position in the ninth.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Chad Hadzinsky pitched all eight and two thirds innings for CMS. William Knowles' defense in centerfield kept the Stags in this one throughout. Down 3-0 going into the seventh, Rehhaut had a two RBI single and Brian Gose added an RBI single with two outs in the top of the ninth. However, Cal Lu scored the game winner in the bottom half on a groundball single to left.
