Riley Harmon Captures SCIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Riley Harmon was named the SCIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for events through Sept. 22, the league office announced today.
Harmon earned the honor after leading the Athenas to the team championship at the Coyote Challenge on Saturday, which was hosted by CSU San Bernardino. Harmon finished second overall out of 146 runners and helped CMS to a convincing win in the team standings with 38 points, beating second-place Concordia Irvine (66) by 28 points.
Harmon's time of 17:58.41 over the 5K race trailed only Rebecca Ruiz of Division II Cal State Los Angeles. She also edged out Concordia's Bailey Wade on the finishing kick to come in second by just four-tenths of a second.
CMS has now had two different SCIAC Athletes of the Week in the three weeks that they have competed, after junior Dulcie Jones captured the honor on Sept. 9 after the Biola Invitational.
The Athenas will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Santa Clarita to take part in The Master's Invitational.
