All Seven CMS Women's Cross Country NCAA Participants Earn All-Academic Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - All seven members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country team who were eligible to receive USTFCCCA All-Academic honors earned that distinction, the organization announced today.

The Athenas also easily reached the minimum standard (3.1) to capture All-Academic Team status from the USTFCCCA, earning a 3.63 team grade point average, which ranks second in the SCIAC.

Only athletes who compete at the NCAA Regionals are eligible for individual All-Academic honors, and CMS batted seven-for-seven, with its entire NCAA roster qualifying.  Senior Malea Martin (CMC, government and literature) was chosen for the third time, while Matilda Msall (Scripps, politics) and Natalie Marsh (Scripps, media studies) each earned a spot on the team for the first time in their final academic years.

Junior Georgia Scherer (CMC, biochemistry) was also a first-time selection, while sophomores Abigale Johnson (Scripps, legal studies and Spanish) and Dulcie Jones (Scripps, biology) were back-to-back selections. Freshman Riley Harmon (Scripps, politics) earned a spot on the team in her debut season.

The CMS distance runners have continued on into track and field season, where Johnson is coming off a strong fourth-place finish in the mile at the Howie Ryan Invitational hosted by the University of Houston last weekend. The squad will be in action this weekend at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet, before hosting the Rossi Relays at the Burns Track Complexon Saturday, Feb. 23.
