DelVecchio wins 400 Hurdles at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team split into different events this week, with the sprinters and field event competitors going to UC San Diego and the distance runners staying in Claremont at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.

At the Triton Invitational, Caroline DelVecchio earned first place in the 400-meter hurdles by .02, crossing the line in 1:01.43 to edge out unattached runner Janice Hinrichs in 1:01.45. Shriya Velichala was eighth as well for the Athenas in 1:06.10. 

Brooke Simon came in third place in the pole vault at 3.82 meters (12'6 1/4"). 

DelVecchio also finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.65. Mia Voce ran a 2:20.49 in the 800 to come in 15th place. 

At the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, Riley Capuano (2:16.81) came in seventh and Angie Gushue tenth (2:19.97) in the 800 meters. Megan Maley was 11th in the 1500 meters in 4:46.28, with Kaya Hano earning a top-20 in 4:56.83 to place 19th (of 61).  

CMS will run in several events this week and will be back in action as a full team when it hosts the third SCIAC Multi-Dual next Saturday
