DelVecchio Finishes First in 400 Hurdles, Simon Second in Pole Vault at Redlands Invitational

REDLANDS, Calif. - Caroline DelVecchio finished in first place in the 400-meter hurdles and Brooke Simon was a close second in the pole vault to highlight the performance of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team on Friday at the Redlands Invitational.

DelVecchio easily won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.33, finishing 4.22 seconds ahead of second-place Eleanor Bachmeier of Redlands. DelVecchio was also sixth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.20,

Simon tied for first in the pole vault with Maisee Brown of Montana State at 3.8 meters (12'5.5"), but Brown earned the tiebreaker due to fewer missed attempts at earlier heights. Simon was just off her personal best of 3.9 meters, which she set at the SCIAC Championships last year to win the title.

Simon was most recently in action when she earned All-America honors at her third straight NCAA competition, coming in eighth at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama last weekend. Bella Milano also added a 10th place finish at the Redlands Invitational in the pole vault at 3.2 meters for the Athenas.

Antonia Hekster earned two top-10 finishes in the throws, coming in fifth in the javelin at 31.30 meters (102'8") and ninth in the hammer throw with a top distance of 43.96 meters (144'2"). Georgia Arnold was in eighth in the javelin as well for the Athenas.

Simone Rogers (sixth) and Cami Okamura (tenth) both earned top-10 finishes in the high jump, although both had the same top clearance of 4'9" (1.45 meters).

CMS will be back in action in two weeks when it competes in the second SCIAC Multi-Dual at Caltech on April 1.
