Bloss, Gushue, Marsyla Earn Top-10 Finishes at Occidental Carnival

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - Meredith Bloss finished in fifth in the 5000 meters (out of 107 runners), and Elle Marsyla came in seventh, while Angie Gushue was sixth in the 1500 meters (out of 87 runners) to highlight the performance of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team at the Occidental Distance and Sprint Carnival on Saturday.

Bloss ran a 17:32.22 in the 5000 to earn her fifth-place finish, with Marsyla also earning a spot in the top 10 with a 17:41.78. Anika Kimme broke 18 minutes as well for the Athenas, clocking a 17:58.77 to finish 17th. 

In the 1500, Gushue finished in 4:39.67 to earn sixth place and take 12 seconds off her PR which she set last weekend at the first SCIAC Multi-Dual. Riley Capuano just missed a top-10 finish as well, coming in 11th place with a 4:49.03, while Megan Maley finished in 4:50.82 to come in 14th place. 

Olivia Schleifer was the top finisher for the Athenas in the 800, coming in 22nd out of 50 runners with a 2:29.37. 

CMS will be back in action this weekend at the Redlands Invitational, before returning to Occidental for the second SCIAC Multi-Dual on April 1.
