Brooke Simon Earns USTFCCCA West Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Brooke Simon of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team was named the USTFCCCA West Region Field Athlete of the Year for Indoor Track and Field season, the organization announced this week.

Simon tied the SCIAC conference record in the indoor pole vault with a clearance of 3.82m (12-6¼) at the Whitworth Invitational, which ranks 10th in Division III this season. She finished first at Whitworth, which is one of her third first-place finishes already this winter, including two of them outdoors, at the OIDFE Challenge hosted by CMS on Jan. 28, and at the first SCIAC Multi-Dual on Saturday at Caltech.

Simon will be attending the NCAA Indoor National Championships this weekend in Birmingham, Alabama, where she will try to earn All-America honors for the third time in her career. The pole vault will take place on Friday afternoon, with the top eight earning All-America distinction.

A year ago, Simon came in sixth during indoor season and seventh during outdoor season to make her way onto the podium both seasons. She also set a PR at the SCIAC Championships of 12'9'5" to earn the league championship and help CMS to the team title.
