Six CMS Women's Track and Field Athletes Earn All-West Honors for Indoor Season

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Six members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team earned All-West Region honors during indoor season, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced this week.

Four of the six are distance runners who earned All-America honors for the cross country team in the fall, while helping CMS earn second place at the NCAA Championships. Emily Clarke earned USTFCCCA Indoor All-Region honors for the 3000 Meters, Natalie Bitetti captured it in the mile, and Riley Harmon and Meredith Bloss were honorees in the 5000 meters.

In addition to the four distance runners, Caroline DelVecchio captured All-Region honors in the 60-meter hurdles, while Brooke Simon was an honoree in the pole valut. Simon, along with Bloss and Clarke, earned selections to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend by finishing in the top 20 in the country.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The Athenas had six honorees despite very limited participation in indoor season, with Bloss attending the Boston University Season Opener in December on the heels of the cross country championships, and the rest attending the Whitworth Invitational in February.

The NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina this weekend, with seven CMS student-athletes attending, including four members of the men's team (Massimo Bertini, Miles Christensen, Kai Dettman, Henry Pick) joining Bloss, Clarke and Simon.
