Bloss Takes 3000 Meter Title at Rossi Relays for CMS Women's Track and Field

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Meredith Bloss won the 3000 meters at the CMS Rossi Relays on Saturday, beating out a field that included runners from every division, including large contingents from Loyola Marymount and UC San Diego.

Bloss won the 3000 meters in a time of 10:02.05, seven seconds faster than Claire Graves of Division I Loyola Marymount, who was second in 10:09.90. 

Brooke Simon nearly gave CMS two individual champions in the pole vault, but ended up tied for first with a top clearance of 3.8 meters, but ending in second place due to number of attempts. However, the vaulter in first, Alyana Nicolas of San Jose Track Club, was a non-collegiate entrant, which left Simon the top finisher among a field that included several UC San Diego and Fresno Pacific entrants. 

CMS had the second-place finishing team in the 4x800 relay as Camille Forte, Natalie Bitetti, Angie Gushue, and Megan Maley ran a 8:38.32, coming ahead of UC San Diego and Pepperdine and just behind Cal Poly Pomona.

The distance medley relay team of Megan Zimmer, Maley, Bitetti and Riley Harmon was also a runner-up, crossing the line in 12:26.43, behind only The Masters College in 12 minutes even. 

The CMS 4x100 relay team clocked a time of 50.87 to top the Division III entrants of the field, with Claudia Nanez, Caroline DelVecchio, Madison Packbier and Mikaela Lipsky beating Pomona-Pitzer by just under a second and Chapman by just over a second.

DelVecchio added a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.98 seconds, behind only a runner from Fresno Pacific and one from Cal Poly Pomona. 

Carly Kirsch was 11th in the shot put with a throw of 10.40 meters, and added a 13th-place finish in the discus and a 14th-place finish in the hammer. Amanda Gallop was 11th in the javelin with a throw of 31.55 meters, while Robin Peterson was 14th. 

CMS will next be in action as a team next weekend when it competes at its first SCIAC Multi-Dual, hosted by La Verne.
