Brooke Simon Takes SCIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - First-year pole vaulter Brooke Simon earned the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, March 8, the league office announced today.

Simon earned the honor after winning the pole vault at the Athenas' first SCIAC Multi-Dual event of the year, which was held at Whittier. Simon cleared 3.70 meters (12'1.5"), winning the event by over two feet and setting a new personal best, which ranks second all-time at CMS. The only person ahead of her on the program charts is All-American Jacque Desmond, who finished fourth at the NCAA Division III Championships last year.

Simon's efforts helped CMS sweep the first SCIAC Multi-Dual of the year as it begins defense of its 2019 league championship. The Athenas won nine of the 19 events on the day at an event that also included Chapman, Caltech and Occidental, in addition to host Whittier.

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it travels to participate in the annual Occidental Carnival on Saturday night.
