Sara Mostatabi '15 Finishes in top 100 at USA Olympic Marathon Trials

ATLANTA, Ga. - Former Claremont-Mudd-Scripps distance runner Sara Mostatabi (CMC '15) earned her way into the U.S. Olympic Marathon Team Trials with a qualifying run last year, and gave an impressive showing this weekend, finishing in the top 100 (91st) in a field of 390 of the top Marathon runners in the country.

Mostatabli ran a 2:43:28, averaging a 6:15 mile on her way to finishing in the top 100. The race was put on by the Atlanta Track Club and started and finished at Atlanta's Centennial Park. Mostatabi's fastest mile was her second at 5:42, and she was still running a fast 5:48 for the 10th mile, and under six minutes on her 18th mile (5:56).

Aliphine Tuliamuk was the top finisher in 2:27:23, edging Molly Seidel in 2:27:31. Mostatabi was 22 seconds ahead of 100th place, finishing in the middle of a big cluster of runners that crossed in the minute under 2:44, as 82nd place was 2:43:01 and 104th was 2:43:59.

While at CMS, Mostatabi earned All-America honors in the 10,000 meters at the 2015 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships as a senior with a seventh-place finish, after winning the event (and taking second in the 5K) at the SCIAC Championships. She was also fourth at the SCIAC Cross Country Championships as a senior, and seventh in the NCAA West Region Championships.
