Gallop Puts Herself in CMS Record Books After Winning Javelin at Redlands Invite

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team posted two top finishes at the Redlands Invitational, both coming in field events. Emily Bassett (CMC) posted a first-place finish in one of her three events, before Amanda Gallop (SC) put her name in the CMS records books with her win in the javelin (39.12m). The 4x100 team also put up a top-10 time in program history after taking third in the event. Tyra Abraham (SC) posted the fastest 100 meter dash in Division III this season with a time of 11.89.

On the Track

The team of Grace Pratt (CMC), Danielle Honan (CMC), Nirel JonesMitchell (CMC), and Abraham put together the sixth best 4x100 relay performance in CMS history, finishing third with the top Division III mark at the meet with a time of 47.66.

Abraham continued to dominate in her senior season, also competing in the 100 meter dash. As mentioned, her time of 11.89 was the fastest this year in Division III in the event by over a tenth of a second.

Honan placed 11th in the 100 meter before taking 14th in the 200 meter. JonesMitchell finished 11th in the 200 meter and 14th in the 200 meter.

Pratt was also one of the four Athenas to compete in the 4x400 meter relay. She teamed up with Katie Snell (CMC), Bridget McCarthy (CMC), and Becca Stewart (SC) to take fourth in the race with a mark of 4:17.87.

Sabrine Griffith (CMC) posted a top-10 finish in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing her race with a time of 14.92, and McCarthy did the same in the 400 meter hurdles with a mark of 1:10.56.

In the Field

Bassett and Gallop dominated in their events. Bassett won the hammer throw with a mark of 56.73m, and took third in both the shot put (12.00m) and discus (38.45m). Her performance in the discus was the top mark for a Division III athlete at the meet.

Gallop had the fourth best mark in the javelin in Division III this year with a distance of 39.12m. She won the event by over half a meter while posting the second best mark in CMS history. Gallop also had a top-10 finish in the shot put, coming in ninth with a toss of 10.69m.

Mikaela Gallardo (SC) was also in action, participating in both the hammer and javelin. The junior finished 12th in the hammer (38.23m) and eighth in the javelin (29.99m).

Along with her performance in the 100 meter hurdles, Griffith participated in the long jump, leaping to a mark of 5.28m for fourth place.

Amanda Mell (CMC) was in action in the triple jump and the long jump, taking fifth (10.72m) and ninth (5.10m), respectively. Her mark in the triple jump was the top Division III performance at the meet.

Jumpers Michelle Lilly (HMC), Amelia Otto-Cutting (HMC), and Bailey Mknelly (SC) all posted top-ten marks in their events. Lilly finished ninth in the triple jump (10.26m). Otto-Cutting and Mknelly took seventh and ninth, respectively, in the high jump.

The Athenas head to San Diego next weekend to take part in the SDSU Invitational. The three day event is set to run Thursday, Mar. 22 through Saturday, Mar. 24.
