Athenas Turn In Strong Performances at Oxy Carnival
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team was in action on Saturday, braving the rain at the Oxy Sprint and Distance Carnival. Though not the entire team participated, multiple Athenas posted top-10 finishes.
On the Track
Ellen Berkley (CMC) had the top finish in a track event for the Athenas. The senior placed third in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:04.14, more than four seconds ahead of the next runner. Jackie McVay (SC) ran her way into the top-15, crossing the finish line in 12:09.62.
Also in action for the Athenas was Kyleigh Mann (CMC) who posted a top-10 finish in the 1500 meter run, running her race in 4:48.74. Freshman Abby Johnson (SC) also did well in the event, finishing 17th in the field of 89 with a time of 4:53.33.
In the Field
Mikaela Gallardo (SC) threw to a mark of 29.82m in the javelin throw to take third in the event. The junior also posted a top-ten finish in the hammer throw with her toss of 39.28m.
Michelle Lilly (HMC) leapt to 12th place in the triple jump with a distance of 10:07m.
The Athenas continue their season on Friday at the Redlands Invitational.
