CMS Women's Tennis Advances to Regional Finals with 5-0 Win over Transylvania

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Regional Finals with a quick 5-0 win over Transylvania on Friday morning at Carnegie Mellon.

CMS did not drop a game in singles as it moved to 23-1 on the season and moves on to face the winner of the second regional semifinal between Carnegie Mellon and North Central. Transylvania, which advanced with its first-ever NCAA win yesterday over Penn State-Harrisburg, ends its season at 14-8.

CMS swept the three doubles lines with Sena Selby and Audrey Yoon winning 8-0 at No. 3, Lindsay Eisenman and Ella Brissett picking up an 8-1 win at No. 2, and Alisha Chulani and Nikolina Batoshvili capping off the sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 1.

The Athenas needed just two singles points to secure the clinch and halt the match, and Selby and Chulani earned 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and No. 2 to end the match in just 1:07. Batoshvili and Jade Haller were both up 6-0, 5-0 when the match was halted, while Yoon led 6-0, 3-0 at No. 1 and Anna Petrescu led 6-0, 2-0 at No. 6.

CMS is now one step closer to winning its third straight national title. A win tomorrow will advance the Athenas to nationals, where they would open play in St. Louis for the NCAA Quarterfinals on May 20. CMS has won the last two national championships, both over the University of Chicago, winning 5-1 in 2022 and 5-3 last season.
