CMS Women's Tennis Stretches Win Streak to 40 with Win at Whittier

WHITTIER, Calif. - The top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team stretched its winning streak to 40 in a row dating back to last season with a win at Whittier on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, CMS now stands at 17-0 this season and 4-0 in the SCIAC, and has not lost a match since the ITA Indoor Championship to Chicago last March, a defeat which it avenged by defeating the Maroons in the national championship in May. The Athenas are a combined 44-1 in the last two years, and 53-1 since its last outdoor loss on April 16, 2022 against Pomona-Pitzer.

CMS swept through doubles, with Anna Petrescu and Arushi Malik taking an 8-0 win at No. 3. Nikolina Batoshvili and Alisha Chulani won 8-2 at No. 1, and Muduo Zhou and Sena Selby picked up an 8-4 win at No. 2.

The Athenas earned 6-0, 6-0 wins on five different courts in singles, with Petrescu (No. 4) and Malik (No. 6) completing perfect days with their 8-0 win in doubles. Selby (No. 2), Batoshvili (No. 3), and Zhou (No. 5) also had unblemished singles wins, while Jade Haller moved up to No. 1 and had a 6-2, 6-2 win.

CMS will be back in action tomorrow when it hosts Redlands for a 7 p.m. contest at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
