CMS Women's Tennis Moves to 16-0 with Shutout over Cal Lutheran
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team remained undefeated on the season defeating Cal Lutheran, which came in ranked No. 47, on Friday afternoon at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
Nikolina Batoshvili, Audrey Yoon and Muduo Zhou each won in both singles and doubles for the Athenas, who have now won 39 matches in a row since last season. Cal Lutheran slips to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the SCIAC with the loss.
Yoon took an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles with Sena Selby, and then played at No. 1 singles against Carmen Bufkin, a battle between two players who qualified for the NCAA Division III singles championship last year, with Yoon taking the 6-3, 6-2 win.
Batoshvili earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles with Alisha Chulani, and then was able to capture a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Zhou was an 8-2 winner at No. 3 doubles with Ella Brissett, and then was the first to finish in singles, taking a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5.
After Zhou's win, Jade Haller provided the clinch when she earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 to make the score 5-0. Anna Petrescu followed shortly after with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles, and Arushi Malik finished off the shutout when she came from behind for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 win at No. 6 singles to finish off the 9-0 win.
CMS will be back in action when it travels to Whittier on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. contest, before returning home to face Redlands on Wednesday, which is currently ranked No. 10 in the nation.
