CMS Women's Tennis Defeats Caltech to Stay Undefeated
PASADENA, Calif. - The top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team remained undefeated on the year (15-0) as it defeated Caltech 8-1 on Wednesday evening.
The Athenas have now won 38 matches in a row dating back to last season, when they won their second straight national title, and now stand at 15-0 this season and 2-0 in the SCIAC, while Caltech falls to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in league play.
Sena Selby and Audrey Yoon took the first point with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles, and Lindsay Eisenman and Ella Brissett also added an 8-2 win at No. 2. Alisha Chulani and Nikolina Batoshvili capped off the sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
Jade Haller picked up the first singles point for CMS with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while Brissett (6-2, 6-1) and Batoshvili (6-2, 6-0) followed with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 to extend the lead to 6-0. Anna Petrescu earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6, and Selby battled to close out a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3.
Caltech won its only decision at No. 1 singles, where Emily Zhang was able to come back for a 2-6, 6-4, 12-10 win to help the Beavers avoid the shutout.
CMS will be back in action on Friday when it hosts Cal Lutheran at 2:30 p.m.
