CMS Women's Tennis Shuts Out Occidental in SCIAC Opener
EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - After its first three attempts at a SCIAC match were canceled due to weather, the top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team finally got one in the books and took a 9-0 win over Occidental on Saturday.
With the win, CMS moves to 14-0 on the season, and stretches its winning streak to 37 in a row dating back to last season.
Muduo Zhou combined with Sena Selby for an 8-0 win in doubles, and then had a 6-0, 6-1 win in singles to nearly complete a perfect day. Anna Petrescu was perfect at No. 4 singles, winning her match 6-0, 6-0, while Arushi Malik was close at No. 6, winning 6-0, 6-1.
Lindsay Eisenman and Ella Brissett had to battle for their win at No. 2 doubles, taking it in a tiebreaker (7-2). Eisenman earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, while Brissett was able to take a win at No. 2 singles 7-6, 6-1.
Alisha Chulani and Nikolina Batoshvili won at No. 1 doubles 8-3, and Batoshvili added a 6-1, 6-1 singles win at the No. 3 line.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday, when it makes up one of its postponed matches as it travels to Caltech for a 7 p.m. contest. The Athenas will then return home to meet Cal Lutheran on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
