Jade Haller Earns SCIAC Athlete of the Week Honors for CMS Women's Tennis
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Jade Haller of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned the SCIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, March 30, the conference announced today.
Haller helped the top-ranked Athenas remain undefeated (13-0) on the season when she picked up the clinching win in a 5-4 victory over No. 17 MIT on Friday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. Haller moved up a line to No. 3 singles after the Athenas pulled one of their players from the line-up, and she had to battle through a tough match against a nationally ranked (No. 46) opponent before prevailing 7-5, 7-5.
The end of her second set was played under some match pressure, as MIT had won the previous two singles decisions to close to within 4-3, and the Athenas were trailing in the third set in the other match still going on. However, with the score 5-5, Haller responded with two straight game wins to earn the close 7-5, 7-5 decision and give the Athenas the clinch, extending their winning streak to 36 matches, dating back to last season.
Haller becomes the third different Athena to earn the award this spring, and the sixth different current Athena to win during their careers. Haller joins Audrey Yoon and Alisha Chulani as winners this spring, while Sena Selby and Ella Brissett earned it last season (along with Chulani), and Nikolina Batoshvili won it in once in 2022.
CMS will be back in action on Friday when it battles Redlands for a 3 p.m. contest.
