Audrey Yoon Earns SCIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Audrey Yoon of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team captured the SCIAC Athlete of the Week honor for matches through Sunday, March 10, the SCIAC office announced this afternoon.

Yoon picked up the award after helping CMS to three wins over the weekend (today's WashU match will be part of next week's nominations). Her big moment was providing the clinching point in a 5-4 win over Emory, defeating seventh-ranked Ana Crisitina Perez in straight sets.

The match was tied 4-4 and Yoon was up a set, but trailing 6-5 in the second, when she pulled even and then dominated the tiebreaker, winning 7-1 to secure the tight victory for CMS and extend its winning streak to 34 matches. She also earned a doubles win against the Eagles, and swept singles and doubles against No. 18 Kenyon on Friday, going 4-0 on the weekend.

Her award makes two weeks in a row that the Athenas have been honored by the SCIAC, after Alisha Chulani was named Athlete of the Week following a 6-0 performance while leading CMS to the championship of the ITA Indoor Nationals last weekend.

CMS, which moved to 11-0 with a win over WashU on Monday (with Yoon winning at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles), will next be in action on March 22, when it hosts No. 4 Middlebury.
