CMS Women's Tennis Wraps Up Fall Invitational with Strong Effort Saturday
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team won four out of six singles matches against Division I CSU Northridge, and won two of three doubles matches against rival Pomona-Pitzer on the final day of the Sagehen-Athena Invitational on Saturday.
Lily Walther (6-2, 6-1), Muduo Zhou (6-2, 6-1) and Lindsay Eisenman (6-2, 6-4) each took straight-set singles decisions against CSU Northridge. Ella Brissett had a longer battle in her match, but was able to come away with a 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 win, while Audrey Yoon and Arushi Malik fell by the same 6-3, 6-2 score.
In doubles, Katherine Wurster and Sena Selby won a quick 6-0 decision, while Walther and Jade Haller took a 6-2 win. CMS nearly went 3-for-3, but it dropped a tiebreaker to the top Sagehen team of Angie Zhou and Nina Ye, with Alisha Chulani and Audrey Yoon playing to a 6-6 stalemate through 12 games before falling 7-3 in the tiebreaker.
CMS will be back in action in two weeks for the ITA West Regionals, which will be held in Claremont at both CMS' Biszantz Family Tennis Center and the Pomona-Pitzer's Pauley Tennis Center.
