CMS Women's Tennis Stretches Winning Streak to 12 with Another Shutout Win
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team won its 12 match in a row, with seven of the last eight coming by shutout, as it took a 9-0 win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
CMS now stands at 16-1 on the year and 4-0 in SCIAC after taking 9-0 wins over both Whittier and Cal Lutheran this week. The Regals, who came in ranked No. 36 in the country, slips to 7-5 with the loss.
The Athenas earned an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles, where Audrey Yoon and Olivia Almy were able to get the victory. That was quickly followed by an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles, as Sena Selby and Katherine Wurster prevailed. Nikolina Batoshvili and Alisha Chulani then finished off the sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 1.
Selby was the first to pick up a singles win, as she won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, with Ella Brissett earning a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2. Batoshvili had a perfect singles match at No. 4, winning 6-0, 6-0, and Lindsay Eisenman continued to roll with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5.
Almy finished off her match at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-0 win, and Yoon earned the final point with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1.
CMS will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Caltech for a 3 p.m. contest.
