
CMS Women's Tennis Shuts Out Williams, Occidental
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team took a 9-0 win over Williams, and then added a 9-0 win over Occidental in its SCIAC opener as it took a pair of shutout wins on Saturday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
With the wins, CMS improves to 11-1 on the year, including seven wins in a row, with the only loss to top-ranked Chicago at the ITA Indoor Championships.
Against Williams, CMS took a 3-0 lead after doubles, with Williams forfeiting at No. 3 due to only having five players available. Alisha Chulani and Nikolina Batoshvili earned an 8-3 win at No. 1, and Ella Brissett and Lindsay Eisenman earning an 8-4 win at No. 2.
Williams also had to forfeit at No. 6 singles, and Audrey Yoon provided the clinch with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3. Katherine Wurster then earned a win at No. 2 (6-1, 6-3), which was followed moments later by a 6-3, 6-1 win from Sena Selby.
Chulani then picked up a big individual win, coming back at No. 1 singles for a 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 victory to make it 8-0, and Brissett finished off the team shutout with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 4.
Against Occidental, Wurster came back for a win at No. 1 singles for the final point, taking it 2-6, 6-4, 10-6, but CMS was able to dominate the rest of the matches.
Yoon had a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles, her second and third straight 6-0 sets of the day. Selby and Eisenman won at No. 4 and No. 5 by identical 6-0, 6-1 scores, Arushi Malik won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6, and Batoshvili took a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3.
CMS will be back in action tomorrow for a 2 p.m. match against Grinnell.
