CMS Women's Tennis Shuts Out Division I Santa Clara

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned the doubles point and then won quick decisions in the bottom half of the singles ladder as it defeated Santa Clara 4-0 on Friday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

With the win, the Athenas improve to 9-1 on the year, and stretch their winning streak to five straight matches. Santa Clara falls to 0-8 on the year with the loss.

The match was played by Division I rules, with doubles counting as one point, and the match ending with the clinch. The first two doubles results were split, with Lindsay Eisenman and Ella Brissett winning for the Athenas 6-1 at No. 3, and Katherine Wurster and Sena Selby were able to earn the decisive point at No. 2 with a 6-4 win.

Selby had a strong effort in singles, with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5, while Brissett added a win at No. 4 in a tight second set, winning 6-3, 7-5. Nikolina Batoshvili prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6, and the tight battles on the top three lines went unfinished.

Audrey Yoon was close to finishing off her match, which saw her win the first set 6-0, drop the second 6-2, and she was up 5-0 in the third. Wurster led 6-4, 5-5 at No. 2, and Alisha Chulani was up a set (6-4), but down in the second 4-2.

CMS returns to action next Saturday, when it plays a doubleheader against Williams and Occidental.
