CMS Women's Tennis Controls Singles for 5-2 Win over Point Loma

San Diego, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team dropped the doubles point to Point Loma, but took five of the six singles courts as it captured a 5-2 win over the Division II Sea Lions on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Athenas move to 2-0 on the young season, while Point Loma slips to 1-2 with the loss.

Audrey Yoon won in both singles and doubles for the Athenas, while Sena Selby picked up the clincher at No. 3 singles. CMS almost swept the six singles lines, after Nikolina Batoshvili won the second set to earn a split at No. 5, but Thelma Sepulveda won the tiebreaker third-set for the Sea Lions. 

Yoon and Katherine Wurster opened up doubles with a 6-2 win at No. 3, but Point Loma was able to win close battles at No. 1 (7-5) and No. 2 (7-6, 8-6 in the tiebreaker). Ella Brissett knotted the score up 1-1 with a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles, and Alisha Chulani gave CMS the lead with a 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. 

Lindsay Eisenman put the Athenas on the brink of the clinch with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6, and Selby finished off the team win with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 3. Yoon added a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 2 for the fifth CMS point. 

CMS will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 24 when it hosts two matches at Biszantz, taking on Brandeis at 3 p.m. and Southwestern at 7 p.m.
