Alisha Chulani Takes SCIAC Athlete of the Week Honors for CMS Women's Tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Alisha Chulani of the top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for matches through Sunday, Feb. 5, the league office announced today.

Chulani won in both singles and doubles as CMS defeated Westcliff 8-1 in its first dual match of the year. She earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, after teaming with Nikolina Batoshvili for an 8-5 win in doubles, the first time the duo played together this year after they were the No. 1 seed in the NCAAs last year (Batoshvili studied abroad in the fall).

Chulani was part of the second national championship in program history a year ago, winning at No. 1 doubles with Batoshvili in every postseason match, including a key win over Chicago in the national championship. She didn't play singles during the postseason run, but had a strong showing in the fall and opened the spring season in the No. 3 spot in the CMS ladder. 

The Athenas will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Point Loma.
