CMS Women's Tennis Takes Down Westcliff 8-1 in First Dual of 2022-23 Season

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Alisha Chulani, Sena Selby and Ella Brissett each won in both singles and doubles as the defending national champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team defeated Westcliff 8-1 in its first dual match of the 2023 season on Saturday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

Chulani paired with Nikolina Batoshvili for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles in their first match reunited after Batoshvili studied abroad in the fall. Selby combined with Katherine Wurster for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles, while Brissett and Olivia Almy took an 8-1 win at No. 3.

In singles, Audrey Yoon picked up a win at No. 1 when her opponent retired after Yoon took the first set 6-1. Lindsay Eisenman added a quick win at No. 6 singles, taking her match 6-2, 6-1.

Brissett played at No. 5 and captured a 6-2, 6-2 win, while Chulani stepped into the No. 3 spot and had a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win. Chulani played at No. 1 doubles last season, but was not part of the regular singles lineup, as she showed that she's ready to expand her role this spring as the Athenas look to repeat.

Selby had to regroup for her win at No. 4 singles after dropping the first set 6-3, but she dominated the rest of the way, winning the second and third sets 6-0 and 6-2.

CMS will be back in action on Friday when it travels to play Point Loma.
