Eisenman/Lee Advance to ITA Cup Doubles Quarterfinals

ROME, Ga. - Lindsay Eisenman and Gabby Lee, the tournament's No. 3 seed, earned a 6-4, 7-5 opening-round win over Jay Lu and Sarah Persemlidis of MIT to advance to the ITA Cup quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon at the Rome Tennis Center.

With the win, the Athena duo will move on to face Claudia Ng and Perene Wang of the University of Chicago in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon. Ng and Lee faced each other in doubles in the national championship match a year ago, which Ng and Eugenia Lee won, but that was the only point the Maroons would capture as CMS took the title 5-1.

The winner of that match will move to face either Angel Le and Arianna Castellanos Calderon of Whitman, the tournament's No. 2 seed, or Alice Hall and Ansley Carpenter of Sewanee in Friday afternoon's semifinals for the right to advance to the championship match on Saturday.

The CMS doubles team of Alisha Chulani and Devon Wolfe drew the tournament's top seed, Shianna Guo and Slywia Mikos of Chicago, and gave them a tight battle before falling 7-5, 6-3. They will be in action in the consolation bracket tomorrow against Cara Hung and Jamilah Karah of Bowdoin.

In singles, Katherine Wurster fell in her first-round matchup to Ida Krause of NYU, but bounced back to win her first match in the consolation draw. Wurster has already clinched All-America honors for the 2022-23 season after winning the individual title at the ITA West Regional, defeating top-seeded Angie Zhou of Pomona-Pitzer in the final. Zhou moved on to the ITA Cup semifinals with two dominant wins on Thursday.
