Gabby Lee celebrating the ITA West doubles title with Lindsay Eisenman

Wurster, Lee/Eisenman Open ITA Cup as Third Seeds Thursday Morning

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Katherine Wurster will be the No. 3 seed in singles and LindsayEisenman and Gabby Lee will be the No. 3 seed in doubles as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team competes at the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, beginning on Thursday morning.

Devon Wolfe and Alisha Chulani will also be competing in doubles and drew the tournament's top seed, Sylwia Mikos and Shianna Guo of Chicago, in the opening round. It's almost a rematch from the national championship a year ago, when Chulani and Nikolina Batoshvili defeated Mikos and Guo 8-6 at No. 1 doubles to help propel to the Athenas on to the national title.

Batoshvili is studying abroad this fall, though, and Chulani will pair with Devon Wolfe this time (who won at No. 3 doubles last year in the national title match with Sarah Bahsoun).

Eisenman and Lee will open play against Jay Lu and Sarah Pertsemlidis of MIT in the Round of 16. That will also be a partial rematch from the NCAA Tournament a year ago in the quarterfinals, when CMS defeated the Engineers 5-2. One of the two MIT points, though, came from No. 2 doubles, when Pertsemlidis teamed with Seraphin Castelino to edge Gabby Lee and Sydney Lee 8-6.

The doubles play will begin at 1:30 (Pacific time), while singles will open the tournament bright and early at 5:30 a.m. (Pacific time) with Wurster battling Ida Krause of NYU. Two rounds of singles play will take place on Thursday, and Pertsemlidis could end up meeting the Athenas in two straight matches, if she advances past Kelsey Door of St. Catherine and Wurster defeats Krause, they will face each other at 9:30 a.m., with the doubles match against Lee and Eisenman to follow.

Wurster earned her way into the ITA Cup by winning the West Regional in three sets over Angie Zhou of Pomona-Pitzer, who was the top seed in the regional. Zhou also qualified for the ITA Cup and is seeded fourth, potentially setting up a rematch in Saturday's finals if both can win their first three matches.
